Finally saw The Odyssey in theaters! Way more jump-scares than I was expecting, but, wow! What a film! Has me thinking a lot about xenia/hospitality, “Zeus’s law,” and how far short we fall of even that standard, when it comes to immigrants and the poor.

Finally getting around to reading “The Age of Reading is Over” in The Atlantic (the hard copy, one of my last since my subscription has lapsed, arrived). It’s some of the saddest stuff I’ve ever read, and I’m not even to the AI section yet!

Cabo Verde pronunciation in Portuguese. Is it “KAH-boo VEHR-duh” or “KAH-boo VEHR-jee”? I think Brazilian Portuguese would be the latter “-jee” version (at least in the NE where I visited some 20 years ago).

I think Sidny Lopes Cabral’s goal for Cape Verde vs Argentina, to tie it back up in the 103rd minute, was one of the top five most memorable goals I’ve ever seen. Right up there with van Persie’s “Flying Dutchman.” What say you?
